Singer Josh Groban visited a local middle school in Queens, NY to drop off brand new musical instruments and participate in chorus class as part of the “Our School Needs” campaign kick-off.

From introducing us to the ABCs and arithmetic to awakening passions in academics, music, visual arts, and theater, education makes a life-long impact. As schools across the country undergo severe budget cuts, students and teachers both are really struggling sometimes crucial supplies go lacking or the entire program gets cut out entirely.

The great news is Bing has partnered with DonorsChoose.org and started a program called “Our School Needs” it is to help provide students and teachers with supplies and financial support needed to ensure a successful learning experience to deserving schools nationwide.

Students, parents and teachers were asked submit a request for what their school needs most by submitting a photo, essay or optional video on behalf of their school.   Then the panel of judges will be hard at work selecting the 15 finalists for the Our School Needs contest.  Stand by for the big announcement—then the voting begins and it’s up to you!

The voting phase starts Friday, October 29 and runs through Sunday, November 7.  America will be asked to vote on the 15 Our School Needs finalists as determined by the panel of judges. The winners will be announced Tuesday, November 9.

* Bing is awarding a quarter-million dollars in prize money divided among four schools in need, and your vote can make all the difference.

* The entry with the most votes wins $100k, and 3 others will each win $50k.

* Bing is giving away up to $900,000 to schools in need through DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit website where public school teachers can post classroom projects that need funding.

* Be one of the first 30,000 to vote for your favorite finalists each day and receive a $3 donation code to redeem for the classroom project of your choice!

* Remember to go here to vote starting October 29th through November 7th!

From teaching us how to read to writing recommendation letters for college applications, schoolteachers play an important role in a number of milestone events we experience while growing up.  Let’s face it teachers spend just about as many hours with our children as we as parents do.  As the end of the school year approaches, we find ourselves thinking about how to thank teachers for all they do.  A lot of teachers feel being appreciated meant more than any tangible gift they could have received.
I am really excited my oldest daughter (Melissa) is going to be attending an Early College Program.  It’s a fairly new program and is in need of items.  Moms Central is going to give me $100 DonorsChoose Giving Code I will be applying it to this class project.  Melissa and I both feel Mrs. Haines and Mr. Chandler are very deserving of this, both of them have went over and beyond to help Melissa succeed with her future plans.

Bing is encouraging students and parents to recognize teachers who have made a difference in their lives through a new philanthropic campaign focused on supporting kids’ education.  Bing has committed to a gift of up to $500,000 and teamed up with Donors Choose to provide both kids and adults with a way to express their thanks to a teacher and help another teacher or school in the process.
Here’s how it works: a teacher can log onto the website Donors Choose to start a “classroom project” or donation request.  Parents and students can then visit Bing Teacher Appreciation site to post a comment or share a story about a teacher who made a difference in your life (or the life of your child), and Bing will provide you with a $5 donation to Donors Choose, which can be applied toward any classroom project of your choice.  Each visitor can leave up to 5 comments, resulting in a total donation of $25.00.
At the end of June, Bing will aggregate the comments and share them with each teacher in the form of a congratulations letter.
